Yoga Super Foods

Regular yoga practice has many health benefits including improved blood pressure levels, circulation, and overall sense of well-being. But healthy nutrition, in addition to yoga, is also critical for maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. One of the best yet simplest ways of achieving a balanced diet is the inclusion of super foods in daily meals.

Super foods are foods highly packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These foods are known for reducing cell damage and preventing heart disease and other illnesses. Examples of super foods include: potassium and vitamin C rich rhubarb, omega-3 and omega-6 filled pumpkin seeds, protein rich quinoa, as well as goji berries.

Quinoa has become an increasingly popular food in North American cuisine. This super-seed is packed with protein and contains all nine of the essential amino acids. It tends to be fairly filling per serving and is a great meal option before a hard yoga workout.

Goji berries are hailed as one of the newest super foods. This berry (similar in shape and taste to a raisin) is known for treating hypertension, cancers, and other diseases. In the morning before a yoga session, goji berries go perfectly with a hearty bowl of oatmeal. They are also good in flavoring water for a workout.
